Your Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration and meet your mountain crew. Begin your climb through Kilimanjaro’s lush rainforest, where you may spot colobus monkeys and colourful birds. Arrive at Machame Camp for dinner and your first night on the mountain.
Day 2

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Leave the rainforest behind as the trail climbs into open moorland. Enjoy views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro’s summit before reaching Shira Camp. Spend the afternoon resting and adjusting to the altitude.
Day 3

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Hike up toward Lava Tower, where you will have lunch at a higher altitude. You will then descend into the Barranco Valley. This “climb high, sleep low” day gives your body valuable time to acclimatise before dinner and an overnight stay at Barranco Camp.
Day 4

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Start the day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a steep section that your guides will help you navigate. Continue across a series of ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp. The shorter hiking day leaves time to rest and prepare for the next stage.
Day 5

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Climb steadily through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. After an early dinner and a briefing from your guides, rest for a few hours before setting off during the night.
Day 6

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then Mweka Camp

Begin the summit climb around midnight, moving slowly through the cold and darkness. Reach Stella Point near sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 7

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain, then descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. After completing the exit formalities and receiving your summit certificate if you reached Stella Point or Uhuru Peak, meet your vehicle for the drive back to your hotel.
